Environmental stress directly affects:  Agriculture  Public health  Rural livelihoods  Biodiversity  Water security Sustainable environmental management, plantation drives, waste management awareness, and climate-resilient agriculture are becoming critical priorities across the state.

Healthcare Challenges

Although Maharashtra has relatively stronger healthcare infrastructure compared to many Indian states, significant gaps remain in rural and underserved areas. Major healthcare concerns include:  Maternal and child health gaps  Nutrition deficiencies  Inadequate preventive healthcare awareness  Unequal healthcare accessibility  Poor sanitation and hygiene practices in vulnerable communities Health datasets for Nagpur district under the Health Management Information System (HMIS) indicate continuous monitoring requirements in areas such as:  Family planning  Immunization  Maternal healthcare  Rural and urban healthcare delivery systems

Agriculture and Rural Livelihoods

Agriculture continues to employ a significant rural workforce in Maharashtra. However, climate variability, soil degradation, rising cultivation costs, and water insecurity continue to impact agricultural productivity and farmer incomes. Recent labor data highlights the increasing dependence of women on agriculture. According to labor force survey findings, nearly 76.9% of rural women in India were engaged in agriculture-related activities in 2024, reflecting the feminization of agriculture as male migration toward non-farm employment increases.
